Having a plan in the event of an emergency evacuation is the best thing you can do for yourself and your pet. 

What to Pack in a Pet Disaster Kit?

Items to include in a Pet Preparedness Kit

  • Proper identification
  • Immunization records (You can view your pet’s health records by here or by downloading our app on the Apple Store or Google Play Store)
  • County license Rabies tag
  • Food and water (2 wks. supply)
  • A carrier or portable kennel
  • Medications
  • Muzzle, collar, and leash
  • Feliway or Adaptil (calming spray, diffuser or wipes)
  • Manual can opener
  • Current photo of the pet
  • Feeding and water bowls
  • Favorite toys and blanket
  • Cat litter/pan and scoop
  • Grooming items
  • Plastic bags to handle waste
  • Pet First Aid Kit

Keep your pet up to date on vaccines and their microchip information current.
In the event, you are separated from your pet the having your pet’s microchip information current could be their ticket home.

Pet Shelters

Pet Preparedness Tip
When staying in a shelter having a t-shirt or blanket that smells like the owner in the cage with the pet can provide a calming effect.

There are three pet-friendly shelters in Pinellas County open during disasters: 

Palm Harbor University High School
1900 Omaha St., Palm Harbor

Largo High School
410 Missouri Ave. N., Largo

Gibbs High School
850 34th St. S., St. Petersburg
